samwuel kiplagat now 36 years has worked as a
security guard in the school of information science for last sixteen years. it
all began in 1999 when he sat for kenya certificate of secondary education exam
and attained a mean grade of c+(plus) but due to poor family background he
could not proceed but to look for a job to help his young siblings. samwuel
remembers how he could be sent home for fees when he was a student at moi
university secondary school and ended up staying at home the whole term because
there was no fees.
"I could plough other peoples farms when i
closed for holidays just to raise the fee" mr samwuel said. "life was
all difficult until i found a job with hatari security firm and deployed in moi
university" he added. samwuel knew one day his dream will became valid, he
started by saving little money from his
monthly salary with the aim of enrolling for any course in moi university as
self sponsored student. “it has been a long journey best with challenges, i have to provide for my
three children, buy food for parents and also care for my siblings" he
said.
samwuel is currently a third year student pursuing a
bachelors of arts degree in criminology and feels happy for his dream is
yet to be realized. he wants to continue
with masters immediately he graduates in 2017, he believes in working hard and
trusting in God. His advice to students facing financial constraints due to
poverty is "when everything gets lost, hope still remains"
